Temporary Graduate visa (subclass 485) – Australian Student to Work Visa

 

Highlights:

  • This visa allows you to work, study and live in Australia.
  • There are 3 different visa streams: Graduate Work, Post-study Work and Replacement.
  • This Temporary visa and allows you to stay in Australia temporarily. Visa period is determined by the different visa streams.
  • Hong Kong and British National Overseas passport holders may be granted a longer stay.
  • You may qualify for a second or third visa in the Post-study stream if you satisfy the residency-based requirement.

Key Requirements

Common criteria for all streams

  • Holder of eligible student visa in the last 6 months unless a concession applies.
  • English proficiency : Overall score of at least 6 with a minimum score of 5 for each of the 4 components on the IELTS test or other equivalent English test scores.
  • Arrangements for health insurance.
  • Health and character requirements, including applying for an Australian Federal Police check in the last 12 months.

Graduate Work stream

  • You must have a skilled occupation on the relevant Medium and Long Term Strategic Skilled List (MLTSSL).
  • Australian Study requirement within the last 6 months unless a concession applies.
  • Qualifications must be closely related to your nominated occupation.
  • Positive skills assessment
  • Covid concessions: From 1st July 2022 to 30 June 2023. Temporarily remove the requirement for a skilled occupation, closely related qualifications and a positive skills assessment.

Post-Study Work stream

  • Holder of relevant student visa - applied on or after 5 November 2011. This visa must have been your first student visa.
  • Holder of Australian Educational Qualification - Bachelor Degree, Bachelor (Honours) Degree, Masters by Coursework Degree, Masters by Research Degree, Masters (Extended) Degree or a Doctoral Degree.
  • Australian Study requirement within the last 6 months unless a concession applies.

Replacement Stream

  • Holder of a first Subclass 485 visa as the primary applicant. This visa must have been granted before 15 December 2021 and in effect on or after 1 February 2020.

Skilled – Recognised Graduate visa (subclass 476) – Overseas Engineering Student to work

 

Highlights:

  • This temporary visa allows you to work and study for up to 18 months.
  • This visa encourages overseas engineering students to get work experience in Australia.
  • Covid Concession : On 5 April 2022, almost 3,000 eligible Skilled-Recognised Graduate (subclass 476) visa holders had their visa extended until 14 April 2024. Contact us to know whether you qualify for the extension.

Key Requirements

  • Under 31 years of age
  • Have completed an engineering degree at a specified educational institution in the past 2 years
  • Any institution offering an Engineering qualification accredited under the Washington Accord is a specified institution.
  • NOT previously been the primary visa holder of subclass 476 or 485 visa
